Wondrous Stories at Birmingham 2022 Festival

Dance-circus company Motionhouse will be unveiling its Wondrous Stories Post Box in the Library of Birmingham on 18 January. The launch event will be attended by members of the creative team and performers from Wondrous Stories, the show which will open the Birmingham 2022 Festival on Centenary Square from 17-20 March. Sadler’s Wells in the Spring

Sadler’s Wells is set to kick off its spring 2022 season with a powerful offsite work about Black male identity. TRAPLORD, by London artist Ivan Michael Blackstock, is an immersive dance performance produced by Sadler’s Wells and 180 Studios. TRAPLORD uses dance, theatre and spoken word to question the stereotyping of Black men in contemporary western society. Read More

A year of premieres for Scottish Ballet

After over a year, Scottish Ballet returned to stages with Gene Kelly’s Starstruck, which premiered as both a live tour and a feature-length dance film. The Nutcracker returned to stages in Scotland, with updates made to costumes and choreography, addressing racial stereotypes and questioning the gender of ‘hero’ characters. Read More 

Anything Goes this Christmas

The Barbican production of Anything Goes will be shown on BBC television this Christmas, having received rave reviews since it opened earlier this year. Read More

Northern Ballet’s Pinocchio

 Northern Ballet’s major national tour of a new ballet for children will be Pinocchio, which will tour nationally throughout the UK from February – April 2022. This will be following its world première, which took place in Leeds last month. The production will be visiting more than 20 theatres, delighting audiences everywhere. Read More

A new feature film from BalletBoyz

The internationally acclaimed dance company BalletBoyz has announced its return to both screen and stage. In March the company will return to live performance with Deluxe, a double bill fusing dance with original music and film content. Read More

World Ballet School Day

World Ballet School Day 2021 recently took place on Saturday 13 November, and is now available to view on catch up. The second edition of the day began at 7am GMT, and over the course of the day students from seven schools of the organising committee shared interviews, discussions, rehearsal and performance footage to offer a unique insight into the world of professional ballet and dance training. Sadler’s Wells’ Hip Hop Theatre Academy

A new Hip Hop Theatre Academy to develop the next generation of hip hop theatre artists is one of the major initiatives at Sadler’s Wells’ fourth London venue, Sadler’s Wells East, due to open in Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in late 2023. Read More

Tributes to Sir Robert Cohan

Yorke Dance Project will stage its new programme Past Present from 12-14 November at the Linbury Theatre, Royal Opera House. This will include 20th century classics from Martha Graham and Sir Kenneth MacMillan, the world premiere of Sir Robert Cohan’s final work and world premiere of so it is, a new work by artistic director Yolande Yorke-Edgell. Connecting to Cohan, a special performance in tribute to Sir Robert Cohan, will be then presented on 15 November. Read More

English National Ballet’s Nutcracker

English National Ballet’s Nutcracker is returning to the stage this Christmas. The festive family favourite will be performed at the London Coliseum from 16 December – 8 January. COVID-19 restrictions meant English National Ballet was unable to present a live version of Nutcracker for the first time in the Company’s 70 year history, but this December sees the show return to live audiences. It is arguable that dance has a huge number of benefits, and it is hugely positive that it continues to grow in popularity. Celebrating 11 years of its Emerging Dancer competition, English National Ballet will stream a special event featuring a programme of classical ballet and new creations performed by previous winners. London’s Danceworks began its masterclass series during the pandemic, leading with Alejandro Parente and Marianela Nuñez, followed by Vadim Muntagirov. Swapping out their stage costumes and practice wear put away for lockdown, and donning their best leotardstights and leggings, it has been a chance to offer unique training experiences to other dancers. Dance Umbrella’s 2021 Festival

Scottish Ballet Returns with UK Premiere of Gene Kelly’s Ballet

This autumn Scottish Ballet plans a return to stage and screen with Gene Kelly’s ballet Pas de Dieux, giving a new twist for its UK premiere. One of the first choreographers to bring the ‘American style’ to Europe, the legendary icon Gene Kelly was invited to create an original work for the Paris Opera Ballet in 1960.  Read More

UK Tour of Grease Rescheduled

The producers of the first new production in 25 years of the iconic musical Grease have rescheduled the 2021 dates of the UK tour. The musical was due to tour in 2020 but had to be postponed due to COVID-19. Directed by Nikolai Foster and choreographed by Arlene Phillips, the 2021 tour will now begin at Curve, Leicester from 30 – 31 July. Read More

Kids Week

Official London Theatre's Kids Week is back this summer, giving theatre lovers the opportuity to essentially take a child to the theatre for free when accompanied by a full paying adult, to different shows throughout August. Over 30 shows are participating in the scheme for performances from 1 - 31 August, with Kids Week being all about encouraging children into the theatre. Read More
